Cult comedy-drama, Hera Pheri, has been one of the most loved comedy movies produced in the Indian entertainment industry and enjoys humongous popularity amongst the netizens for its comic timings and dialogues. While the trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal is loved by one and all, Sanjay Dutt was the original choice for Suniel Shetty’s character.
The Priyadarshan directorial was earlier titled Raftaar and had Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal as the principal cast of the comedy-drama. However, Sanjay Dutt was going through legal troubles in connection with the conspiracy of the Bombay blast and charges under TADA. The actor had to appear before court daily which made him exit the movie.
After Dutt’s exit, the makers were looking for an apt replacement and it was Sanjay Dutt who suggested the name of Suniel Shetty to cast in his place. Suniel was approached and he instantly gave his nod for the movie given its epic script and the rest is history.
Hera Pheri turned out to be a blockbuster and a turning point in the careers of the lead cast. Even after two decades of its release, the comedy-drama remains one of the most popular movies in the Indian entertainment industry and its dialogues are commonly used for meme materials.
