Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane’s Sanam Teri Kasam is gearing up for its grand re-release tomorrow, and early trends suggest it might surpass its original opening day collection with ease. Despite multiple films hitting theatres simultaneously, the romantic drama is expected to pull in impressive numbers, even outperforming the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani re-release at the Indian box office.
Originally released in 2016 and directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Sanam Teri Kasam received mixed reviews from critics and failed to make a mark in its initial theatrical run. However, over the years, the film has gained a loyal fan base, particularly due to its widely loved soundtrack, making it a cult favourite among romance enthusiasts.
With Bollywood romantic films finding success in their re-releases, the makers of Sanam Teri Kasam have decided to bring it back to the big screen. The film will re-release alongside Badass Ravi Kumar, Loveyapa, and Interstellar (re-release). Impressively, it has already secured nearly 1,200 shows across India, with the final count expected to go even higher.
The film is off to a strong start in advance bookings, backed by its emotional appeal and powerful performances. As of 3 PM IST, ticket sales have grossed ₹69 lakh for the first day, with over 39,000 tickets already sold. This indicates that the film will comfortably surpass its original opening day collection of ₹1 crore net from 2016.
Moreover, Sanam Teri Kasam is on track to beat the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani re-release’s ₹1.15 crore net opening day collection, making it the second-biggest Bollywood re-release opening. Tumbbad currently holds the top spot with ₹1.65 crore net, while all other Hindi re-releases have started below ₹1 crore.
With strong audience nostalgia and a solid advance booking trend, Sanam Teri Kasam is set to make a surprising impact at the box office nearly a decade after its initial release.
