However, his recent interview about the movie dragged him into a controversy when he made a remark on the demon king Ravana.

A civil court advocate filed a complaint against Saif Ali Khan in Uttar Pradesh for hurting religious sentiments with his statement. In the controversial interview, the actor was discussing his character of Lankesh in the upcoming movie Adipurush and said that the movie will justify Sita’s abduction by Ravana and show his ‘humane’ side. The statement didn’t go well with many and as per reports, the plea will be heard in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

However, after the backlash, Saif Ali Khan was quick to respond and apologise for his ignorance. The actor issued a statement and retracted his controversial statement. “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions,” read the statement.
