The entertainment industry was one of the first sectors to get severely affected by Coronavirus pandemic. While the daily wage workers faced the wrath of the nationwide lockdown, many celebrities from the entertainment fraternity came forward and supported those in need. Renowned actor, Ronit Roy, has also been supportive of the cause and has contributed to those in needful, however, the actor recently opened up on the harsh side of the industry.

In a recent interview, Ronit Roy voiced his opinions regarding the unpaid dues in the Indian television industry and confessed that he hasn’t been paid since January. Citing his own example while urging the producers and channels to pay the dues, the actor said, “Personally, I haven’t made money since January. I have a small business which was running, and is now shut since March. Whatever I have, I am selling things to support about 100 families that I am responsible for.”

The actor further bashed the production houses with lavish offices for not taking care of the people who work for them. “I am not a very rich man, but I am doing it. So, these production houses and channels who have these big, lavish offices which are visible from 2 kms away from a highway, they need to do something. They have to take care of the people on the ground. At a time like this if they don’t take care of the actors then it’s not fair,” added Ronit Roy.

Earlier, a television actor, Manmeet Grewal, committed suicide after suffering financial crisis and depression while another actor, Rajesh Kareer, pleaded for financial help by uploading a public video. Now, Ronit Roy has spoken and urged producers as well as channels to clear their dues.
