The winners of the 71st National Film Awards were announced at a press conference held by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. The awards honour outstanding achievements in Indian cinema, recognising films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 31, 2023.
One of the major highlights this year was the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar. The film earned two major awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. This category recognises films that achieve mass appeal while maintaining emotional depth and artistic quality.
The film also won Best Choreography for the grand and energetic track Dhindhora Baje Re, choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. Featuring lead stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the song was celebrated for its stunning visuals, classical influences, and powerful execution.
Karan Johar reacted to the win with heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I am ecstatic and overwhelmed to win the national award for a film exceptionally close to my heart. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani… I am grateful to the jury and continue to be humbled by the enormous love the film continues to receive.”
