American actor Robert Downey Jr has been one of the most loved actors around the globe and he rose to indefinite fame after his portrayal of two popular fictional characters, the great detective Sherlock Holmes and the superhero Iron Man. While Robert played the iconic private investigator in two movies, the third instalment of the franchise has been in the works for years. Meanwhile, the latest report suggests that the actor will be producing two spinoff series for the streaming giant, HBO Max, to extend the universe.
According to Deadline, HBO Max and Warner Bros are working on spinoff series for TV to connect the films and television shows of Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes franchise. The actor, who will be playing the iconic character in both the movie and the TV series, has reportedly stepped in as a producer for two spin-off series for HBO Max. Meanwhile, Robert will also be playing the protagonist in the highly-anticipated third instalment to his popular Sherlock Holmes franchise.
Earlier reports suggest that the spin-off series will be based on the characters that are to be introduced in the third instalment of the movie franchise. The movie was earlier scheduled for a worldwide release in December 2020 but it was pushed further and later hit the backburner after the Covid-19 induced restrictions. However, the actor and the filmmaker, Dexter Fletcher, have publicly expressed their interest in completing the project and releasing the movie soon.
The HBO Max series will be in direct competition with the Enola Holmes movie franchise backed by Netflix which shifts the focus of Sherlock Holmes fans to the youngest sibling of the Holmes brothers. Featuring Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes and Henry Cavill as the world’s smartest detective, Enola Holmes 2 is slated for a digital release in 2022.
