Recently, Crime Intelligence Unit busted a racket of fake views and fake followers selling on popular social media networks and initiated a probe. Many renowned celebrities were named in the fake social media followers scam including the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. In relation to the ongoing cyber investigation, renowned rapper and music composer Badshah was summoned by the Mumbai Crime Branch for investigation.

Badshah was questioned by the Mumbai Crime Branch in relation to the fake social media followers scam and the Crime Branch had reportedly prepared a list of 238 prominent questions for the interrogation with the rapper. While Badshah was one of the big names in the entertainment industry who was summoned for interrogation, the Crime Branch has questioned around 20 people in relation to the online scam so far. The accusations are based on the violation of the Information Technology Act of the country.

Earlier playback singer Bhoomi Trivedi had complained about a social media profile impersonating her identity and the investigation led to the fake followers selling business in the showbiz. Earlier reports revealed that top Bollywood actresses including Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were likely to be summoned by the police station for interrogation in the fake social media followers scam. However, no reports related to the same surfaced afterwards.
