Ranbir Kapoor, riding high on the success of his recent film, Animal, faces a controversy stemming from a viral video that has led to an FIR being lodged against him. The actor is accused of offending the religious sentiments of Sanjay Tiwari, prompting legal action.
The viral video, capturing a family moment with Alia Bhatt during the annual Christmas lunch at Kunal Kapoor’s house, shows Ranbir Kapoor igniting a cake and uttering ‘Jai Mata Di.’ This seemingly innocent act has triggered the controversy leading to the FIR filed by Sanjay Tiwari, alleging religious disrespect against Ranbir Kapoor and his family.
The complaint, filed by Sanjay Tiwari through advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra at Ghatkopar police station, accuses the Kapoors of deliberately using intoxicants during a celebration of another religion, allegedly insulting the Sanatan Dharma. Ranbir Kapoor now faces legal charges under sections 295 A, 298, 500, and 34.
A prominent figure in the Indian film industry, Ranbir Kapoor has carved a niche with notable films since his debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007. Despite an initial clash with Deepika Padukone’s Om Shanti Om, RK gradually won hearts with versatile performances in films like Wake Up Sid!, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewana, Sanju, Tamasha, Rockstar, and more.
Despite the legal turmoil, Ranbir Kapoor’s latest film, Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has been a commercial success, grossing over 500 crores at the box office since its December 1st release. The film is poised to surpass the lifetime collections of Gadar 2.
