Ranbir Kapoor confirms dual role in Ramayana, to play both Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama

Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, continues to build massive anticipation, and the latest revelation has only added to the excitement. The actor has now confirmed that he will be playing a dual role in the epic, portraying both Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama in the two-part film.

The announcement came during an interaction following the teaser showcase in Los Angeles, where Ranbir spoke about the depth and preparation required for the roles. He shared that stepping into two avatars of Lord Vishnu in the same project was both a rare opportunity and a creative challenge.

Explaining his approach, Ranbir spoke about focusing on the emotional and spiritual essence of the characters rather than just external transformation. He emphasised that understanding their motivations and beliefs was key to shaping their body language and overall presence. The actor revealed that he spent nearly a year preparing for the roles, immersing himself in the philosophies and values associated with both figures.

He also reflected on the contrast between the two characters. While Lord Rama represents calm, righteousness, and idealism, Lord Parshurama carries a more intense and fierce energy. Bringing these distinct personalities to life within the same narrative adds an interesting layer to the film.

Interestingly, Ranbir initially hesitated to take on the role of Lord Rama. During an earlier interaction in New York, he revealed that when producer Namit Malhotra first approached him four years ago, he felt he was not ready for such a responsibility. However, over time, his perspective changed. The timing of the role, along with major personal developments in his life, including becoming a father, played a significant role in shaping his decision.

The first glimpse of Ramayana has already received a strong response, with many viewers praising Ranbir’s screen presence and suitability for the role. The scale of the project, combined with its focus on authenticity and storytelling, has positioned it as one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema.

The film features a powerful ensemble cast, with Yash playing Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Planned as a two-part saga, the first instalment is expected to release during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.
