Dharma Productions’ sequel to the successful comedy-drama, Dostana, has been one of the most anticipated movies in the making. While the movie was announced in late 2019, the production came to a halt after the pandemic induced lockdown. Meanwhile, the makers and lead actor Kartik Aaryan had a fallout and the team is looking for a replacement.

For the unversed, Dharma Productions recently released a statement that Kartik Aaryan is no longer a part of the film. Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence-we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha. Please wait for official announcement soon,” the official statement read. While both the parties refrained from commenting on the reason for the fallout, the sources suggest creative differences to be the cause.

While director Collin D’Cunha is taking the opportunity to fine-tune the script of Dostana 2, the makers are looking for a replacement for Kartik and if reports are to be believed, Rajkummar Rao is the top contender. Rajkummar was reportedly the first choice for the role but due to the unavailability of dates, he couldn’t be a part. However, now that circumstances have changed greatly due to the pandemic, the makers are reconsidering getting Rajkummar Rao on board again.

Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor and debutant Laksh Lalwani remain part of the movie as leads. Bankrolled by Karan Johar through his banner Dharma Productions, the movie is being helmed by Collin D’Cunha.
