Rajkummar Rao has proved his mantle time and again with his acting. The actor, who made his acting debut as a newsreader in Rann, entered into the league of A-listers with his dedication and method acting. Rajkummar won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for the 2016 release, Trapped, and he earned critical acclaim by not eating for 20 days.

The survival-drama helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane featured Rajkummar Rao as a call centre employee, Shaurya, who accidentally locks himself in his new apartment complex. The lone watchman stationed at the building is unaware that Shaurya has moved into his new flat and the new high-rise apartment complex is empty due to construction and legal issues. Disconnected from the outside world, Shaurya struggles to survive without food, water and electricity.

As days passed by, Shaurya resorts to eating cockroaches, ants and pigeons to survive. Rajkummar Rao had to lose a considerable amount of weight in order to fit in the movie plot and to achieve the same, the actor stopped eating completely. To keep it realistic, Rajkummar Rao survived on a coffee and carrot diet throughout the course of filming and his hardship with method acting redeemed him critical acclaim.

Despite failing to bring the audience to the box office, Trapped remains one of the most remarkable and critically acclaimed performances in the Indian film industry and helped Rajkummar Rao reach his current status.
