Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi made the headlines today after he was sentenced to two years imprisonment in the 19-year-old human trafficking case. The report of his verdict has been confirmed by the complainant’s lawyer Gurmeet Singh, according to ANi.
Daler Mehndi and his brother, Shamsher Singh, were accused of illegally sending people abroad disguising them as troupe members. They were reportedly charged with the IPC sections for human trafficking and conspiracy and the Indian Passport Act.
Earlier, the Patiala court had convicted Mehndi for two years in prison in 2018 and the recent hearing was a review hearing in the case. He was granted bail in the earlier verdict but after the recent imprisonment sentence, he has now been arrested as per court orders again.
In the FIR, the singer was accused of taking money for illegally sending people to USA. It was alleged that the brothers took about 10 people to the USA in return for money in 1998 and Mehndi had also allegedly dropped off three girls in San Francisco.
