Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, better known for his stage name Bad Bunny, is joining the Spider-Man universe as the comic book based antihero character, El Muerto, in the upcoming live-action Sony movie. The standalone comic book-based movie will feature Bad Bunny in the lead as announced during the recent CinemaCon.

The annual event in Las Vegas gathers the movie theatre owners and new announcements are made by many production houses. During Sony’s panel, Bad Bunny made a surprise appearance to play the antihero character in the upcoming Sony standalone movie. On the stage, Sony brass suggested that the pop star will portray the comic-book based character in the live-action movie who is on the verge to inherit his father’s power.

The movie will revolve around the origin story of El Muerto aka Juan Carlos, a super-powered wrestler who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match that changed his life. Introduced by Sony Motion Pictures Group president Sanford Panitch, the Grammy Award-winning singer will become the first Latino actor to headline a Marvel movie.

Bad Bunny last appeared as an actor in the successful web series, Narcos: Mexico, and will mark his film debut in the upcoming thriller, Bullet Train, co-starring Brad Pitt as an assassin. The Sony backed antihero movie is slated for a release in January 2024.
