Popular television actor Pearl V Puri was arrested late night yesterday by the Mumbai police in connection with the rape of a minor. While the news jolted the entire entertainment industry and the fans of Pearl V Puri, early media reports and actress Karishma Tanna claimed that the actor has been granted bail in the case. However, the latest report alleges that no bail has been granted so far and Pearl is sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Opposing the popular media reports, a source confirms that Pearl has not been bailed in connection with the alleged rape and molestation of a minor and he has been sent to judicial custody following court orders. The actor has been booked under the section of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and was arrested under IPC section 376 AB, r/w POCSO Act 4, 8, 12,19, 21. DCP Zone 2, Sanjay Patil, who is handling the case, confirmed that no bail has been granted to the actor so far.
Earlier, the entire television industry came out in support of the actor and trended #IStandWithPearl on social media networks. Renowned producer Ekta Kapoor claimed that she talked to the mother of the alleged victim who confirmed that Pearl has been framed. Later on, many celebrities forwarded their support to the actor and Karishma Tanna posted on Instagram that bail has been granted to Pearl.
