Live-action web series of the popular anime manga, One Piece, debuted on Netflix and the fans embraced it with love and excitement. Since the series turned out to be a successful affair, streaming giant Netflix renewed the show for a second season and the manga’s creator is nothing but thrilled.

Sharing his excitement in an old video, the maker shared the news that the adventures of the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward with greenlit from Netflix just two weeks after the launch. “People around the world have been enjoying the show,” he added. While the second season is confirmed, here’s what we know about the anticipated sequel so far.

Release Date:

With production already in full swing, One Piece Season 2 is expected to be available for streaming next year. As per the sources close to the development of the show, the filming of the second season is going well and should finish as early as January 2025. Given the VFX-heavy nature, we might expect the show to air in mid-2025. Adding to the excitement of the fans, season 3 of the show is also in production simultaneously, which will make the fans wait less for the next chapter.

What to Expect from Season 2:

While the post-credits sequence of the first season gave a hint on what the fans can expect from the second season, in a Tudum interview, the co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens revealed, “When the Season 2 writers’ room got together, we knew how far we were going to get and that this character Dr. Kureha was going to be a big part of the season.”

The first season of the show covered the Arlong Park arc, season 2 is likely to follow the Loguetown arc and the series is expected to follow 100 chapters of manga for each season. Owens also teased, “Oda told everyone we’ll be meeting Chopper in Season 2.” Fans of the manga will love Chopper joining the crew. The season will likely feature Reverse Mountain (101-104), Whisky Peak (106-114), and Little Garden (115-129). The next chapters will likely introduce a crucial character, Dr Kureha, to wrap up the Arabasa arc.

New Cast and Characters:

With excitement brewing for the second season of One Piece, the makers have roped in Katey Sagal of Sons of Anarchy fame to join the crew as the formidable Dr Kureha. Mark Harelik is also rumoured to step in as Dr Hiriluk adding new dynamics to the story. Morgan Davies will be joining the Straw Hats as Koby along with Aidan Scott as Helmeppo and Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp. The ensemble also includes Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan, Craig Fairbrass as Zeff, Peter Gadiot as Shanks, and Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown.

“Joe (Joe Tracz) has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help One Piece to new heights,” adds Matt Owens. Eiichiro Oda and renowned producers will bring One Piece back to the forefront.
