Here’s a cinematic twist no one saw coming — Fight Club director David Fincher is reportedly stepping into Quentin Tarantino’s universe with a fresh follow-up to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That’s right, Fincher is helming a Tarantino-penned project, and to sweeten the deal, Brad Pitt is set to return as the effortlessly cool, possibly dangerous stuntman, Cliff Booth.

While Hollywood sequels often reek of rehashed nostalgia, this one promises something much more intriguing. According to insider buzz, this isn’t just a lazy re-run of 2019’s Oscar-winning film — it’s a full-fledged narrative extension, with a new tone and a new era. So if you thought Cliff Booth and Rick Dalton’s flamethrower finale was the end, think again.

Podcast hosts Sean Fennessey and Amanda Dobbins from The Big Picture have added fuel to the fire, suggesting this project is far more than industry gossip. Fennessey confirmed, “It definitely seems like this movie is happening,” hinting that Cliff’s next adventure is already gaining momentum.

But don’t expect a direct sequel. Think of it more as a spiritual successor — a standalone story set in the same universe. Fennessey compared it to the vibe of classic noir stories like The Big Sleep and Farewell, My Lovely — same detective energy, different plots. In other words, we’re getting “The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth,” not Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2.

Set in 1977 — eight years after the events of the original — the film transports Booth into a new Hollywood era full of disco lights, shifting culture, and who knows what kind of chaos. It’s also rumoured to be based on Tarantino’s long-shelved script The Movie Critic, which adds another layer of intrigue to this unexpected expansion.

Though Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton may not return, Brad Pitt’s solo turn promises plenty of grit, style, and mystery. Margot Robbie and other cast members haven’t been confirmed, but with production reportedly beginning in the summer of 2025, casting updates are likely just around the corner.

With Tarantino reportedly gearing up for his final directorial project, passing the torch to Fincher marks a bold move — and potentially the start of a whole new chapter for Tarantino’s twisted, glittery Hollywood playground.
