Despite the controversies surrounding actor Ezra Miller, the Flash movie is set to hit theatres and has already garnered attention with early reviews. While the recent trailer features familiar characters from the DCEU, it’s not Henry Cavill’s Superman that surprises fans, but another character that was previously announced but never seen.
The departure of Cavill’s Superman left superhero fans shocked and disappointed, as they were hoping to see more of him. Originally introduced in the credit scenes of Black Adam, the decision to remove the character from the DCU received significant backlash. However, The Flash director recently revealed that another Superman, originally scrapped in the late 1990s during development, will make an appearance.
In a conversation with Esquire Middle East, director Andy Muschietti confirmed that the surprise for the fans would not only be Michael Keaton’s Batman from DC’s past. Instead, fans will be treated to a surprising cameo by Nicolas Cage as well, portraying Superman. The film explores different versions of heroes across the Multiverse, and Cage’s performance, although a cameo, was praised by the director, who expressed a lifelong dream of working with the actor.
For comic book fans and Cage himself, this moment marks a significant milestone. After Tim Burton’s failed Superman Lives project was abandoned 25 years ago, Cage will finally have the opportunity to play the iconic character on screen. Described as a massive Superman fan and comic book enthusiast by the director, Cage’s involvement adds an extra layer of excitement to the film.
