While the OTT platforms broke the barrier of going out to enjoy cinema and started the new trend of web-series in India. While the web-series instantly became a hit factor for the filmmakers, it also attracts controversies for its freedom of content. Recently, the government had also announced new regulatory measures for OTT platforms and now another web-series has got under controversy.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked the streaming giant, Netflix, to stop streaming Alankrita Shrivastava’s Bombay Begums after its scenes were condemned by Twitterati. ““We have sought stopping the streaming of Bombay Begums over the inappropriate portrayal of children in the series,’’ NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo said as Netflix has been given 24 hours from the time of the notice to stop streaming Bombay Begums.

Reacting to the news, an actor of the web series was quoted as saying, “The ‘inappropriate portrayal of children’ is such a nebulous term. Is the Commission aware of what goes on at the rave parties that teenagers regularly attend? In order to begin to solve the problems that plague our society we must first address those problems. And to address those problems we must first show them on screen. Right? No point in pretending they don’t exist.”
