Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah fame Munmun Dutta has been an active social media personality and she recently made her debut as a vlogger. Munmun, who has been catering to fashion and travelling in her vlogs, recently sparked a controversy when she used a casteist slur in one of her YouTube videos.

For the unversed, Munmun Dutta uploaded a video on her YouTube channel and used a casteist slut while referencing her looks. The actress, who now claims that she was unaware of the actual meaning of the word, used it very casually in her video which created a furore on social media. While Munmun was quick to trim that part from her video, the internet is written in ink and netizens trended #ArrestMunmunDutta on Twitter.

In response, Munmun Dutta issued an apology letter on her social handle and mentioned that she was misinformed about the meaning of the word. “This is in reference to a video that I posted yesterday where in one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word. Once I was made aware of its meaning immediately took the part down,” the letter read.

She further apologized for her action and asserted that it was not her intention to hurt any caste, creed or gender with her video. “I have utmost respect for every single person from every caste, creed or gender and acknowledge their immense contribution to our society or nation. Sincerely would like to apologize to every single person who have been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word and I sincerely regret for the same,” she concluded in her letter.
