The highly anticipated bilingual film Merry Christmas, featuring the dynamic duo of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, has been officially certified UA by the CBFC. With a runtime of 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 24 seconds, the UA certification indicates that the film is suitable for a general audience with parental guidance.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, renowned for his expertise in crafting thrilling narratives as seen in films like Andhadhun and Badlapur, Merry Christmas has been generating significant buzz since its announcement. The cast, including Katrina, Vijay, and Sriram, has been actively promoting the film, engaging with fans during Bollywood Hungama’s Hangout, a special meet-and-greet event.
In a conversation during the event, Katrina praised Vijay as a “gifted” artist, emphasizing his honesty and unique vision in his performances. She expressed admiration for his fearless approach to his craft. Meanwhile, Sriram clarified that initially, the film was offered to Saif Ali Khan. However, as the story evolved, changes led to Vijay Sethupathi stepping into the role.
Sriram explained, “When I was looking at it, I was looking at a Hindi film, no Tamil version and all. I was thinking of Saif because I have worked with him in a couple of movies earlier. So, I thought it might be interesting. I met him and he liked the subject, he liked it very much.”
Merry Christmas is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 12, 2024. Produced by Ramesh Taurani, Sanjay Routray, Jaya Taurani, and Kewal Garg, the film is a collaborative effort between Tips Films and Matchbox Pictures, shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi.
