Marathi Actor Mayuresh Kotkar has been arrested in Thane for allegedly posting objectionable posts on Facebook against the Urban Development Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde. The actor known for working in Marathi language serials and films was arrested after a complaint lodged by Shiv Sena corporator Yogesh Jankar.

The complainant said that Mayuresh Kotkar posted defamatory and inciteful content against the minister which could promote communal violence. The alleged posted was posted on the official Facebook page of Eknath Shinde. After the complaint, Shreenagar police station initiated a probe and arrested Mayuresh to produce him before a Thane court. The actor is sent to judicial custody.

The alleged post pertained to the proposal for the naming of the upcoming International Airport in Navi Mumbai after the Shiv Sena founder, Balasaheb Thackeray. However, the local villagers are against the proposal and demand the airport be named after a local leader from the Peasants & Workers Party, Dinkar B. Patil, who passed away in 2012.

The villagers had also organized a large scale protest by forming a human chain covering 12km in distance.
