Johnny Depp has been the crowd favourite for years and his portrayal of Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise has been one of the few reasons for its popularity. However, after losing a libel suit against a tabloid referring to his troubled marriage with Amber Heard, he was asked to resign from the franchise by Warner Bros studio. To fill his place, Mads Mikkelsen was brought on board.

Mads Mikkelsen has risen to fame recently with his marvellous performances and acting potential. While the fans of Johnny Depp are deeply hurt with the decision of ousting him but given the no-hatred fan following of Mads, he might be the best option for Warner Bros to immune the franchise against the boycott. In a recent interview, Mads opened up on playing the powerful and dangerous wizard in the upcoming movie, Fantastic Beasts 3, and replacing Johnny Depp.

The Another Round actor revealed that the upcoming instalment of the franchise has a ‘really great script’ with a ‘solid story’. The actor believes that the movie is just as magical as it is supposed to be. He also teased that there will be some heart-breaking stories in the movie. However, talking about the comparison with Johnny Depp, Mads said that he has to make it his own.

Talking about the comparisons, Mads Mikkelsen said, “This is obviously a more direct comparison because it’s the next film. So we have done a few bridges that will allow us to recognize it, but we’ve also said we have to make it our own.” The actor also said that he has always admired Johnny Depp for his work and is a fan of him since young. So, he cannot try to replicate him. “…and to try to bring his intensity and his way of doing it into my work is a no-go. I have to find my own, because his is unique, and I just have to let that be, and find a different path,” he concluded.
