YouTube sensation and Indian-Canadian comedian, Lilly Singh, has opened up about facing criticism and her creative ingenuity. She says that she is aware of the fact that she is a minority on screen and that she does know how her perspective about things is very specific. Although she believes that she has a voice and that she wants to make sure it comes through.
Singh talked about her creativity on The Drew Barrymore Show. The talk show host, Barrymore, noted that the comedian creates a tone, does the writing, production and also has a part in the directing all by herself. Barrymore questioned her process of how she manages to play these different characters, take the charge all by herself and collaborate with other artists while getting notes and critiques.
The comedian replied, “It’s important for me to take the reins of my creative because I do know that I’m a minority on screen and I do know that I have a very specific point of view and a specific voice and I want to make sure that it comes through.”
Singh, who is also a late-night show host, believes that she has to find a balance with being open to feedback and criticism. She adds by saying that she is aware about herself talking too fast so if NBC suggests her to slow down a little she should consider it and be open to finding the right balance than just be a sensitive artist.
