Ever since Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide, his fans started a heated debate against nepotism and stars belonging to privileged film families found themselves on the receiving end of infinite trolls and bitter criticism. While the majority of the actors refrained themselves from the ongoing debate, Kareena Kapoor Khan opened up on her struggles and nepotism.
In a recent interview, Kareena Kapoor Khan said that she has completed 20 years in the entertainment industry and it wouldn’t have been possible if it were for only nepotism. “21 years of working would not have happened with just nepotism. It is not possible. I can take a long list out of superstars’ children for whom it’s not been able to happen that way,” Khan said. The actress also said that even though it might not be interesting, she has been through her share of struggles. “There is a struggle but it probably is not as interesting as somebody who comes in a train with just Rs 10 in his pocket. Yeah, it’s not been that and I can’t be apologetic about it,” she added.
Kareena Kapoor Khan says that it is the audiences who make the star irrespective of their family background and privileges. “The idea is that today so many of our biggest stars whom you (the audience) have chosen, whether it is Akshay Kumar or Shah Rukh Khan or Ayushmann Khurrana or Rajkummar Rao, are all outsiders. They are successful actors because they have worked hard. Whether it is Alia Bhatt or Kareena Kapoor, we have also worked hard. You are enjoying our films and watching them. So, it’s the audience that makes or breaks us,” the Jab We Met actress makes her point.
The nepotism topic has been in the industry for the longest but the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput brought it on the frontend. The actor dies by suicide in his Bandra residence on June 14 and his fans presumed it to be a case of nepotism in the industry which led to the unfortunate incident.
