Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially confirmed that a sequel to the action-packed thriller Kill is in the works. The first film, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and hit theatres in July, received widespread acclaim both in India and internationally. Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit in Mumbai, Johar shared that the follow-up is already in development following the success of the original.

Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, Kill tells the intense story of Amrit, an Indian Army commando, and Tulika, his love interest. Their romance takes a deadly turn when they find themselves trapped on a hijacked train, terrorized by Fani and his gang of murderous dacoits. The film was praised for its gripping storyline and standout performances by Lakshya, Tanya Maniktala, and Raghav Juyal.

Karan Johar highlighted the international impact of Kill, calling it a significant moment for Indian cinema on the global stage. “When Kill made waves at the Toronto International Film Festival, it was electrifying,” Johar said. “The deals we struck there have led to an English remake and multiple dubbed versions, proving the global appeal of Indian storytelling.”

The sequel aims to build on this momentum, with Johar confident it will match or surpass the success of its predecessor. “We’re planning a second part, and our goal is to achieve even greater international success,” he revealed.

In a significant move, the English remake of Kill is already in development. Hollywood action legend Chad Stahelski, best known for directing the John Wick series, is producing the film under his 87Eleven Entertainment banner for Lionsgate.

While the details about the project are still in a nascent stage and kept under wraps, the sequel is likely to see exciting international collaborations, including a partnership with Cannes-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, to further elevate Indian cinema on the global festival circuit.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Kill has been labelled “the most violent film made in India.” With the sequel, Johar and his team aim to push the boundaries even further, promising more intense action and a narrative that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
