Starring Kangana Ranaut in the titular character, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released on the big screens on 25 January 2019 and despite much buzz, it failed to live up to the expectations. While Kangana’s performance was well-received by many, she failed to bring the audience to the ticket counter. Now after almost a year, the makers have decided to release the movie in Japan.

Helmed by Kangana Ranaut and Krish, the action-packed period drama tells the brave story of the Queen of Jhansi who refused to bow down to British rulers and remains as the fiercest in Indian history. While the movie had its share of controversies, it managed to cross the 100 crore INR mark in just four weeks of its release and marked the biggest opener for the actress.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to share a localized poster for Japan release and informed the release date to be 3 January 2020. Meanwhile announcing the release in Japan, the producer said in a statement that they intend to showcase the rich culture of India along with the story of a true hero, who courageously fought for her country.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi will be the second outing of Zee Studio International in Japan post Akshay Kumar starrer Kesari which had a similar genre. While Kesari managed to pull great viewership, only the time will tell the fate of Kangana Ranaut’s actioner.
