With the tremendous success of re-releases seen recently at the Indian box office, the makers have turned it into a new trend and enjoying the additional revenue on decades-old projects. The trend started with Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar featuring Ranbir Kapoor and collected over 5 crores in the re-run. Following its footsteps, Laila Majnu (2018) was re-released and saw tremendous success with its second run. With it turning into a trend, PVR Inox has announced a film festival to celebrate 25 years of superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan and will be re-releasing 5 of her iconic movies.

Much to the delight of her fans, the iconic drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham has been announced as the flag bearer of the Kareena Kapoor Khan film festival at PVR Inox. Apart from the Karan Johar directorial, Asoka will also be re-releasing in the top 5 iconic movies of Kareena Kapoor Khan followed by Jab We MetOmkara, and Chameli. This week-long film festival will run over 30 cinemas in 15 cities from September 20, 2024, to September 27, 2024.

Earlier, the makers of Tumbbad re-released the movie riding on the horror-comedy frenzy of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2. The re-release of the cult classic horror movie resulted in selling more tickets at the opening weekend than its original release. While re-releasing old movies is not something new as many movies including Raja Babu, Love Aaj Kal, Partner, Dangal, and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun have been released more than once, the recent trend has resulted in unexpected returns at the box office.
