Todd Phillips’ standalone live-action supervillain origin story, Joker, featuring Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character was released a few months before the pandemic and gained cult status. The comic-book-based drama was a blockbuster at the box office and the fans have been awaiting a sequel to the masterpiece. While the makers are already working on the second part, the cast is being worked upon and if reports are to be believed, Zazie Beetz will be reprising her character in the sequel.
Titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the crime thriller will begin filming in December with a slated worldwide release in October 2024. While the pre-production began months ago, a report close to the development of the project informs that Zazie Beetz is in talks to reprise her role in the Todd Phillips directorial.
Zazie Beetz played the role of Sophie Dumond who was the neighbour and love interest of Arthur Fleck; a single mom struggling in Gotham City. Joaquin Phoenix is already set to return as the profoundly troubled Arthur Fleck, aka the eponymous Joker. He’ll be joined by his partner in crime to be essayed by Lady Gaga, reportedly as a version of Harley Quinn in the film which is rumoured to be a musical.
