Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’ in Todd Phillips’s standalone movie Joker shattered numerous records at the box office and received brilliant reviews from the critics and audience alike. The movie went on to become one of the most successful anti-hero flicks ever released and went on par with the legendary Joker played by Heath Ledger.

While the movie gained critical acclaim for Joaquin Phoenix’s performance, it turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Joker has entered the 1 Billion dollar club with its global box office collection and became the first R-rated movie to reach the mark. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his Twitter handle to announce the achievement.

Todd Phillips’ Joker managed to earn 317 million dollars in its domestic box office and collected a whopping 683 million dollars in the international market to take to a total of 1 billion dollars. It is definitely a huge achievement for the makers and cast of the thriller drama as the numbers are still growing.

Directed and produced by Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker premiered at the film festival in Venice and had an international release on 4 October. Joaquin Phoenix is also being speculated to bag an award at the upcoming Oscars.
