Featuring John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in the leads, the 2008 romantic comedy, Dostana, was an instant hit amongst the audience and the after a decade, the makers decided to add a sequel to the franchise with a fresh pairing. Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor started filming for the project but a fallout between the former and Karan Johar had put the film on a backburner and the latest source suggests that the movie has been shelved.
For the unversed, Kartik Aaryan and ace filmmaker Karan Johar had a massive fallout and Kartik stepped out of all the movies backed by the producer. The fallout resulted in the halt of ongoing projects been the two and Dostana 2 which had completed almost half the production was put on the backburner. Earlier reports had suggested that the makers are on the lookout to replace Kartik Aaryan with a different actor and rumours of approaching Akshay Kumar also made the headlines. However, it seems that the filmmaker has dropped the sequel from his projects for time indefinite.
According to a source close to Karan Johar, the production of the movie took way longer than expected and the makers had to pull the plug to continue with their other work commitments. Reportedly, Karan Johar has offered a different project to Janhvi Kapoor while Akshay Kumar has been brought on board for a movie titled Selfie. Debutant Lakshay who was to play the third lead has also been offered a different project.
While the makers have not made any official announcement regarding the fate of Dostana 2, the current reports suggest that the fans might not be in luck to watch the franchise going forward anytime soon.
