The Coronavirus pandemic followed by the government imposed nationwide lockdown has kept the entertainment industry halted for months. While the earlier ‘Unlock’ phases issued some relaxations for the production activities, theatres and multiplexes remained shut for over 6 months. The latest guideline from the government has some good news for the moviegoers as theatres will be reopened on the 15th of October.

In Unlock Phase 5, the government has mentioned that theatres with 50% capacity can operate and premiere movies on the big screen. With the highly anticipated news, speculations started doing rounds over the internet about which movie will be the first to hit the big screens post the lockdown. While Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is the biggest contender for the Hollywood as the movie was released amid the pandemic and had no OTT release, Vijay starrer Master will be representing the Southern film industry of the country. With very few recent releases from the Bollywood industry, Kiara Advani starrer comedy-drama, Indoo Ki Jawaani, is likely to be the first Bollywood movie to be released in the theatres in the Unlock 5 Phase.

Unlike many other filmmakers, Nikkhil Advani didn’t opt for the OTT route for his movie Indoo Ki Jawaani and therefore, he is not bounded by any exclusive contract to premiere the movie on any digital streaming platform. While the government has only allowed 50% capacity in theatres, Indoo Ki Jawaani wasn’t seeking any more than 50% occupancy considering its space. Helmed by Abir Sengupta, Indoo Ki Jawaani stars Kiara Advani and Aditya Seal in the prominent characters.
