Amazon Prime Video web series Mirzapur is undoubtedly one of the most popular Indian web series and the second season of the show also received critical acclamation. However, the show remained controversial for its content and recently an FIR was filed against the producers of the web series for putting the town of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh under a bad light.
The FIR filed against Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment accused them of outraging religious beliefs and indecent portrayal of the town under sections 295-A, 504, 505 and 34 of IPC and 67-A of IT Act. On Friday, justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Subhash Chand granted relief to the producers and stayed their arrest. The Allahabad High Court also sent a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government and the complainant.
“Having regard to the facts of the case and the submissions made, till the next date of listing or till submission of police report under Section 173(2) CrPC, whichever is earlier, no coercive action shall be taken against the petitioners in pursuance of the FIR registered. However, the petitioners shall offer full cooperation in the investigation,” the court said.
