James Gun’s recent release Suicide Squad has managed to live up to the hype and collected massive at the box office despite the pandemic restrictions. However, the sequel was to be helmed by Gavin O’Connor who walked out of the project after interference from DC.

In 2016, David Ayer directed the highly-anticipated Suicide Squad live-action movie. The supervillain story managed to mint over 700 million at the box office but failed at the critical reception. The makers roped in Gavin O’Connor to helm the sequel and he prepared the script. However, his version of the Suicide Squad never saw the light of the day. Years later, the filmmaker opened up on the same and explained the reason which made him abandon the project.

In a recent conversation, Gavin shared, “What happened there was I wrote a deal to write a script, and they knew what I was writing. At that level, with those kinds of movies, with that budget, no one’s just going off and writing something without walking them through what the movie’s gonna be, and everyone was cool with it.”

“During the latter part of writing the script there was a whole regime change at DC, and when that happened, they wanted it to be a comedy, and I’m like, ‘I’m not writing a comedy.’ I mean, it was fun, but it’s not a yuk-fest. And the new regime wanted a different movie than I was writing,” he continued. He also denied watching James Gunn’s Suicide Squad which was released recently and lived up to the hype.
