Henry Cavill is NOT returning as Superman in DCU; The actor confirms the news with a heartfelt note

British actor Henry Cavill is best known for his portrayal of the overpowered comic book-based superhero, Superman, in the DC extended universe. Henry has been the most loved live-action Superman but his fans were left heartbroken when the production house retired him as the superhero. After many online petitions and support from fans and celebrities alike, DCEU announced Henry’s return as Superman but the latest news is again against his luck.

Fans were thrilled when Henry Cavill confirmed his return as Superman and appeared in a cameo in the recent DC release. While there were reports of a new Superman movie in the making, director and Co-CEO, James Gunn shattered all hopes for Henry Cavill fans. In a tweet, Gunn confirmed working on a new Superman film but without Henry Cavill.

“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future,” the tweet by James Gunn read.

On the other hand, Henry Cavill took to his social media handle to share a heartfelt note with his fans as he announced his exit from the franchise. “It’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” the note read. He further wished the best for the upcoming project and wrote, “I respect that James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
