According to the makers, actor Chiranjeevi’s most recent Telugu film, GodFather, which is a remake of the Malayalam smash Lucifer starring Mohanlal, had a strong beginning with first-day gross earnings of Rs. 38 crores globally. Trade insiders claim that since Chiranjeevi’s comeback a few years ago, this is the best opening for a Chiranjeevi-starring movie in recent years.
At the box office, GodFather competed with Nagarjuna’s The Ghost, although it had already exceeded it by a significant margin in advance bookings. Salman Khan has a lengthy cameo appearance in the political action-drama Godfather, which was directed by Mohan Raja. Along with other notable actors, it also prominently stars Nayanthara, Satyadev, and Murali Sharma. At a pre-release event for the film, Chiranjeevi stated that he wasn’t happy with Lucifer and that Mohan Raja had to make alterations to improve the Telugu version.
“Even after several viewings, I wasn’t quite happy with Lucifer. I was happy with the screenplay after Raja made certain adjustments, which gave me the confidence to direct the film. There are no boring parts in the movie. You will all be completely satisfied,” Chiranjeevi said. His remarks also angered Mohanlal’s supporters, who believe that the original should be honoured.
GodFather has had a strong start, but Chiranjeevi’s previous film, Acharya, had bombed at the box office. He played a middle-aged Naxalite-turned-social reformer in the film, and it was the first time he appeared in a full-length role with his son Ram Charan, but both the reviewers and the public were unimpressed. GodFather, on the other hand, is getting Chiranjeevi excellent ratings.
