American actress Naya Rivera, best known for her work in the musical television series Glee, was announced dead by the authorities after a five-day-long search operation led by Ventura County Sheriff. The actress went missing after going swimming at Lake Piru with her 4-year-old son, Josey. While her son was found alone at the boat by the lake officials, they were unable to track down the actress.
Days after an intensive search and rescue mission led by the concerned authorities, her body was found on July 13, five days after the incident. In the press conference held by the authorities, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub informed that strong current caused the boat to drift away and she was only able to save her son. “We believe it was mid-afternoon when she disappeared, the idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored, and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself,” he added.
Ayub further added that there is no sign of foul play in the incident and also ruled out any indication of suicide. As per the investigation and speculation, Naya Rivera mustered the courage to save her only son, Josey, but couldn’t save herself from the strong currents at the Piru Lake.
Before the officials announced her dead, several members of the television series Glee and family members of Naya Rivera gathered at the lake to pray for her and lend their help to the authorities in the search and rescue operation.
