Trouble seems to be escalating for Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film Ghuskhor Pandit. The controversy surrounding the project has now reached a serious level, with reports suggesting that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has personally directed state authorities to file an FIR against the film’s director, producers, and members of the creative team. This move has added a major setback to a project already facing intense opposition.
The teaser of Ghuskhor Pandit, which loosely translates to “corrupt priest,” has sparked widespread protests across the country. Several groups have objected strongly to the film’s title, calling it casteist and offensive. Many have demanded an immediate change, arguing that the name promotes harmful stereotypes rather than meaningful storytelling.
The Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha in Jaipur has been particularly vocal in its criticism. The organisation has stated that the issue goes beyond cinema and entertainment, claiming that the title reflects a troubling mindset rooted in caste prejudice. Similar sentiments have echoed in other regions as well.
In Bhopal, members of the Brahmin community staged protests on the streets, demanding that the teaser be taken down altogether. Protesters warned that if their concerns are ignored, the agitation could spread nationwide.
The controversy has also moved into the legal space. A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court, challenging the film’s title and seeking judicial intervention.
Amid the growing backlash, Netflix has reportedly removed the teaser and promotional content related to Ghuskhor Pandit from its platform. While there was earlier speculation that the makers might consider renaming the film, fresh developments suggest that the project could be dropped entirely from Netflix’s upcoming slate.
