Gauahar Khan is speaking out against the misinformation surrounding Caesarean deliveries, following recent comments made by actor Suniel Shetty that sparked a wave of criticism online.

During an interview, Suniel Shetty praised his daughter Athiya Shetty for opting for a natural birth and referred to C-section deliveries as “a comfort everyone wants.” His remark didn’t sit well with many, including Gauahar, who used the debut episode of her digital show MaaaNoranjan to address the issue head-on.

“There was a statement made by a prominent figure recently suggesting that C-sections are the ‘easier’ option,” Gauahar said, visibly upset. “I felt like shouting — how can someone even say that?” She emphasised how such narratives minimise the very real pain and challenges involved in both forms of childbirth.

“There’s this myth that C-sections are the easy way out. How can there be so much misinformation? Especially from someone who’s never been pregnant, never carried a child, and can’t possibly understand the physical and emotional toll a C-section can take,” she continued. Gauahar stressed that the decision between a vaginal delivery and a C-section is often not within a woman’s control — and neither defines a mother’s strength or love.

“Some women are able to deliver naturally, some need medical intervention — both are valid, both are powerful,” she asserted. “Opting for a C-section doesn’t make you any less of a mother.”

She also addressed a personal question she’s frequently asked: whether she had a natural or C-section delivery. “I don’t know why this is such a hot topic,” she said. “Both delivery methods are equally challenging and beautiful. But since people keep asking — yes, I had a C-section when I gave birth to my son, Zehaan.”

Gauahar’s honest and impassioned take has been widely praised online for busting harmful myths around childbirth. In response to the backlash, Suniel Shetty has issued an apology, stating that his comments were taken out of context and expressing regret for the misunderstanding.
