The Bollywood never goes without facing social controversies and legal hassles by the government or the masses. Although the cinemas have come to life and many super-hits are having a theatrical release, a host of new legal woes have emerged for various film and web series makers.

The last film to hit a major controversy was Padmaavat. The Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer faced legal issues before its theatrical release in 2018. While we know Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a constant to the legal controversies, his next film Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt as the lead has got into another trouble.

Babu Rawji Shah, one of the four children of Gangubai Kathiawadi has filed a criminal defamation case against the film.

Komal Nahta, renowned trade analyst notes that this could merely be an act to add publicity to the new project. He believes that stories are reported to just increase the awareness of the film. More the awareness is created, more people will be curious to watch the film because of this. On the other hand, trade analyst Atul Mohan feels that the making team must safeguard themselves against these problems prior, as such hassles disturb them and their creative process.

Besides the movie, there are also some projects that are under legal controversies lately. The makers of Jhund have been accused by filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar of copyright infringement. Kumar told that he had bought the rights in November 2017 for his film titled Slum Soccer which is based on the life of soccer player Akhilesh Paul, and Jhund is based on his coach, Vijay Barse. The filmmaker of Karnan, Mari Selvaraj stated that the song Pandarathi Puranam in the film, starring Dhanush has been filed for a petition in Madurai High Court due to the word ‘Pandarathi’. The song is either to be removed from the film or the word to be replaced since the word is believed to insult a certain section of society. Next in the line is Bombay Begum, which was issued a legal notice by the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, to stop airing the show due to its inappropriate content. It also claimed that a show like this would result in the exploitation of the younger generation.
