The Coronavirus pandemic and nationwide lockdown to curb the virus spread have caused tremendous losses to almost every industry and entertainment industry was one of the first ones to get affected. Leading film bodies including The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) put a halt on shootings from March 19 and there have been no activities allowed ever since then.

However, with some relaxation in the fourth phase of lockdown, FWICE has requested the Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackrey, to allow post-production work for projects which are near completion. The film body with over five lakh members has appealed to the government in a detailed letter to seek some relaxations for producers who are bearing heavy losses amid the lockdown and abruptly halt of their projects which were in the post-production phase.

“We would like to bring to your kind notice that there are numerous projects of the Media and Entertainment Industry which are halted due to lockdown and can be completed soon as only the post production activities such as editing, sound recording, music recording and others are pending,” the letter read. FWICE also assured to carry out the activities with proper precautionary measures in place. “If permissions are given to carry out such post production activities of these projects, which can be done in closed studios with minimum workforce, it would be great relief to the producers who have poured in huge funds and that they shall be all set to release their projects immediately after the lockdown is lifted,” the letter further read.

While a representative of the Maharashtra government is yet to comment on the appeal of FWICE, we are expecting relaxations for the post-production activities with precautionary guidelines.
