Director Vikramaditya Motwane is coming up with a fresh concept with his Netflix feature, AK vs AK. The trailer which came out on Monday proved to be a massive success among the critics and the audience.
In the film, Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor will be seen against each other playing the role of a director and an actor, respectively. It tells the story of an assertive film director who kidnaps the daughter of a movie star to film the actor’s search for his next blockbuster. Sonam Kapoor will play Anil Kapoor’s reel-daughter in the revenge-drama.
Sharing his first official look on social media, Anil Kapoor wrote, “When @anuragkashyap72 decides to kidnap a kid for his next film, it’s time to show him ki baap baap hota hai!” He also opened up by saying “We’re all facing some really tough decisions in these uncertain times, but at the end of the day, it’s up to those invested in the film to take a call that will be best for the film. For me, personally, I was convinced of the massive potential of digital platforms even before Covid came into the picture.”
Anil Kapoor further revealed that Ak Vs Ak was always meant for a digital release and it was never made for the big screens. So the current tension between the OTT platforms and multiplex owners has no role to play in the direct digital release of the movie. “AK vs AK was always going to have a digital release because we were all convinced of the power and reach of digital platforms like Netflix, even when many others warned us against taking such a huge risk. I can’t deny that it’s reassuring to see a lot of other producers release their movies digitally now, because it validates something I have believed in for a long time now,” he added.
Helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane, AK vs AK stars Anil Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja in the prominent characters. The revenge-drama is set to release on 24th of December, exclusively on Netflix.
