Controversy has hit the recently released action film Jaat, as an FIR has been filed against Bollywood stars Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh. The complaint, lodged in Jalandhar, alleges that a scene in the film hurt the sentiments of the Christian community.
Filed under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the FIR accuses the actors, director Gopichandh Malineni, and the film’s producers of deliberately portraying content that disrespects religious beliefs. The scene in question allegedly shows Randeep Hooda’s character standing beneath a crucifix in a church, directly above the holy pulpit, while worshippers pray — a moment that the complainant describes as intimidating and disruptive.
What further sparked outrage is the timing of the film’s release — April 10 — which coincided with the holy week of Good Friday and Easter. The complaint accuses the makers of intentionally scheduling the release to provoke anger within the Christian community and potentially incite unrest.
Jaat, headlined by Sunny Deol and featuring Randeep Hooda as the main antagonist, also stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu. The film marks the Hindi directorial debut of Gopichandh Malineni, known for Telugu hits like Don Seenu and Veera Simha Reddy.
Despite the controversy, Jaat has been performing well at the box office, grossing over ₹60 crores across its Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions. And the buzz isn’t stopping — Sunny Deol recently confirmed that Jaat 2 is officially in the works.
Whether the film’s growing success will be overshadowed by legal trouble remains to be seen, but for now, Jaat is making headlines for more than just its action-packed storyline.
