Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo has been getting traction with its simplicity and charismatic performances by the lead star cast. However, the movie recently landed itself into controversies related to its release and story. While the movie was targetted by theatre and multiplex owners for skipping the traditional screening and premiering it directly over an OTT platform, it was recently accused of plagiarism.

While Gulabo Sitabo is penned by writer Juhi Chaturvedi, Akira, son of screenwriter Rajeev Aggarwal, has accused the makers of Gulabo Sitabo of plagiarism and registered a legal complaint against Chaturvedi in Juhu Police Station. The lawyer of Akira has also sent a legal notice to the makers of the movie demanding to see the script before its release. On the other hand, director Shoojit Sircar has rubbished any such allegations made against the movie and claimed that it is an attempt to malign the image of Juhi Chaturvedi.

Supporting his movie writer, the filmmaker explained that Juhi’s movie concept was registered in 2018 and she had not received any copy of the said ‘original script’ in the plagiarism complaint. Shoojit Sircar claimed that the movie script is completely different from what is mentioned in the notice sent to them. He further said that he failed to understand how three minutes long trailer can lead to a conclusion of plagiarism of hours long movie. The filmmaker further added that it is a deliberate attempt to damage the movie and malign the image of writer Juhi Chaturvedi.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in a light-hearted quirky comedy-drama, Shoojit Sircar directorial Gulabo Sitabo is slated to premiere on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video, on the 12th of June.
