Every year, Independence Day brings patriotism to the heart of every Indian and with war-epic movies, the patriotism shoots to another level. Recently, the biological war drama based on the life of Indian army captain Vikram Batra, Shershaah, became a sensation amongst cinema lovers for its epic story and screenplay. With the success and craze for war-epic movies, filmmaker Karan Johar is looking forward to bringing new stories on the big screen every Independence Day.
Karan Johar produced a biopic on flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and former helicopter pilot, last year and brought the story of Captain Vikram Batra this year. The filmmaker is already working on his next war-hero biopic which will be based on the life and inspiring story of freedom fighter Usha Mehta.
According to a source close to the filmmaker, Karan Johar is actively looking to produce more movies on the life stories of unsung heroes of India and he is eyeing to release one movie every year on the occasion of Independence Day. The step could mark a huge turning point of the perspective of the Bollywood industry which mostly glorifies or brings forward stories of gangsters and events in a bad light. With the humongous success of URI: The Surgical Strike, more producers are trying to find similar stories evoking patriotism.
