Renowned director Anurag Kashyap has always been opinionated and never backed down on expressing his views on matters of concern. However, the director succumbed to the online threats being faced by his parents and daughter as he decided to delete his Twitter handle permanently.
Citing threats to his family, Anurag expressed his disappointment in the micro-blogging site and tweeted, “When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn’t going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India and hope you thrive.”
This is not the first time that Anurag Kashyap has raised concern regarding such threats against his family. Earlier in the month of May, he shared a screenshot of rape threat comments on her daughter’s profile posted by Modi supporters and criticised the prime minister followed by an FIR against the person.
“This would be my last tweet as I leave Twitter. When I won’t be allowed to speak my mind without fear, then I would rather not speak at all. Goodbye,” reads his last tweet as he deleted his account on Saturday. He had deleted his Facebook account a couple of years ago as well.
