The biopic of first Indian to go into space, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, has been revolving around uncertainty about its lead actor for years and finally, the makers have locked in Farhan Akhtar to play the part. The much-anticipated biopic titled, Saare Jahaan Se Acchha, was earlier proposed to Shah Rukh Khan and later to Aamir Khan before finally bagged by Akhtar on the verge of getting scrapped.
As per the latest reports, Farhan Akhtar will walk into the shoes of Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, former Indian Air Force Pilot, who earned his name in the history as the first Indian citizen to travel into space in 1984. The plot is itself promising with a flavour of patriotism and with Farhan Akhtar in the lead, we cannot expect anything but perfection. Farhan has reportedly started prepping for his character and is likely to undergo a physical transformation to get in the astronaut shoes.
The report also informs that the script has been finalized and the makers are in the process of assembling the rest of the cast and crew before they pan out the shooting schedule. The biopic will be helmed by Mahesh Mathai who is making a comeback on the big screen after years, while Siddharth Roy Kapoor will bankroll the project as the producer.
Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan had started prepping for the biopic but after the massive failure of his another into-the-space drama, Zero, he opted out of the project. If things go as expected this time around, the movie is likely to go on the floors early next year with Farhan Akhtar playing Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma.
