Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded really well since the last decade and has become one of the most loved movie series in the world. While the third phase of MCU came to an end with the epic Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios are leaving no stones unturned to make its next phase equally successful. During the San Diago Comic-Con, many upcoming Marvel movies and television series were unveiled and much-speculated Eternals were the part of the conference.
Eternals will make their debut in the MCU under director Chloe Zhao and has an all-star cast with Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Salma Hayek. The Eternals will be based on the Marvel comic books of the same name and has a wide history created by Jack Kirby.
In the comics, when the celestial beings visited Earth millions of years ago, they experimented on the then-present proto-humanity and resulted in two completely divergent races- Eternals and Deviants. While the Eternals were considered immortal as they were longer living, Deviants were genetically unstable and monstrous beings.
The experiments provided Eternals with supernatural powers like flight, superhuman strength, teleportation, energy blasts from their hands and eyes, telekinesis, force field generation, and many more. The Eternals decided to use their powers to protect the earth against the evil-minded beings like deviants.
The Eternals have also come in contact with other Marvel characters like members of the Avengers, Asgardians, Kree, Skrulls as they moved to other planets to prevent destruction on Earth. In fact, the villain of the Avengers’ series, Thanos, was also an eternal from the planet Titan.
It will be interesting to watch how Marvel Studios plan on introducing Eternals in the already thriving Marvel Cinematic Universe and how it will affect the current storyline. For the same, we will have to wait for the release of the first feature, Eternals, on the 6 November 2020.
