Late Bollywood legend Sridevi’s iconic film English Vinglish is set to be re-released in China on February 24th, marking the fifth anniversary of the actress’s passing. Directed by Gauri Shinde, the movie will be shown in a massive 6,000 theatres across the country.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Kumar Ahuja, COO of Eros International, stated that “Indian films have gradually gained a foothold in the competitive Chinese movie market, the second biggest in the world. We have seen a rising demand for Indian films in China Mainland, especially the ones which are culturally driven.” He added that they are excited for the audience in China to witness Sridevi’s legendary performance in this masterpiece of a film.

English Vinglish tells the story of Shashi, a housewife and caterer who is often mocked by her family for not knowing English. However, she sets out to learn the language and in the process, discovers more about herself and the values of being a wife and mother.

Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, while in Dubai to attend her nephew’s wedding. She was found dead in the bathroom of her hotel room and left behind a legacy as one of Bollywood’s most beloved and talented actresses. She was married to producer Boney Kapoor and they have two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
