Actress Priyanka Chopra recently attended the Billboard Music Awards 2021 with Nick Jonas, who was hosting the show. Chopra wore a sheer beige gown, with a thigh-high slit by designers Dolce and Gabbana. Although she looked gorgeous, people were upset with her decision to wear D&G, for the reason that the brand has been called out multiple times for endorsing racism, sexism and homophobia.
Popular Instagram feed Diet Sabya, calls out plagiarism by fashion brands and has called out on the actress as well. In its Instagram story, it mentioned- “Not Pri wearing a dress by the very problematic, racist and homophobic Dolce and Gabbana.” The post was also captioned with- “Styled by @luxurylaw, so the disappointment is astronomical.” Law Roach who is an American stylist plays a star in the field of fashion and is known for his activism for social issues.
Diet Sabya has also shared screenshots of followers and others commenting on Priyanka’s posts questioning her about her pick. Luxury Brand Dolce and Gabbana has a controversial past of racist behaviour. The brand was forced to cancel its runway show in Shanghai in 2018 after the parent page of Diet Sabya called Diet Prada shared on its page, the screenshots of Stefano Gabbana hurling racist comments on the citizens of China. The designer made outrageous remarks, and called China “Dirt smelling Mafia.’
In 2015, Dolce and Gabbana designers Domenico and Stefano Gabbana had also revealed that they oppose gay parenting and adoption by gay couples. Earlier in 2013, they unveiled a spring-summer collection with racist imagery caricaturing Black women’s bodies.
Priyanka has shared a couple of pictures from the show on her Instagram handle but yet has to address the backlash.
On the work front, Chopra will next appear in James C Strouse’s Text For You, co-starring alongside Sam Heughan and Celine Dion. Besides this, she also has Lana Wachowski’s Matrix 4 with Keanu Reeves and the Amazon Prime series Citadel by the Russo Brothers.
