On December 16, 2012, the whole country was shook when the news of a 23 year old Physiotherapy intern, brutally raped and assaulted by 6 men in a moving bus in the National Capital hit the news. There was never something so heinous ever heard or seen.

The online streaming giant Netflix, brings to you Richie Mehta’s ‘Delhi Crime’ that will revisit the Nirbhaya Rape through the lens of the Investigation Team that left no stone upturned in solving and catching the rapists within days of the incident. However, the incident left a deep impact on everyone handling the case, be it the Police, the Medical team or the journalists covering the story.

The official trailer of ‘Delhi Crime’ introduces us to Shefali Shah as Investigating Officer Varthika Chaturvedi who has been woken up at mid-night with regards to the incident that was about to cause a Nation-wide rage and witness something life altering. Rasika Dugal plays a young police officer Neeti Khanna who is encouraged by Varthika to handle the victim’s parents, while she self doubts her capabilities to do so.

Shefali’s character Varthika has been based on former Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma in New Delhi, who was part of the Nirbhaya gang rape investigation team and caught hold of the rapists.

Shot in Delhi, the research on the project took good five to six years for the makers. The narrative will mostly follow that of  Officer Varthika Chaturvedi’s and her team, from the time of the incident is reported to the final arrest, bringing along the personal and professional impact of the case in her life.

The 7 episode web series also stars Adil Hussain, Yashaswini Dayama and Rajesh Tailang in pivotal characters. The series for sure isn’t going to be an easy watch, but a case of national interest and an excellent ensemble of cast, this one for sure isn’t to be missed out on.

Delhi Crime will be released on March 22 on Netflix.
